Mick Jagger and Chuck Berry 1969.

In 1969, Chuck Berry opened one of the shows. You didn't seemuch of him, really. This was taken on the only occassion that he came backstage to visit. It seemed there was always a bit of uneasiness: for it was clear that this entire "English invasion" - really all of rock n roll - rested on the foundation of the work done by Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and the like. But the Stones, of course, were the headliners. Elvis was the first, best example of this. Little Richard remains vocally bitter to this day
