"He walked slowly, a very studied slowly, to the microphone. He grasped it with both hands, and leaned his weight upon it, looking down. When he sang, he puts his lips directly to the mike, and mouthed the lyrics in such a way that it seemed as if he were not careful he might inadvertantly swallow the mike.... He seemed to be playing to an incredible tension that was simply not there."
