JOHN LENNON COLLECTIONS HOME

I first met John Lennon in his basement flat in Montague Square, London, 1968. He was 27, and I was 22. It was the second seminal event (the first being a session with Mick Jagger a few weeks earlier) in my photographic life. Without plans except to see the world, I'd travelled to Europe that summer, taken the ferry to England, and stayed. I was, at the time I met John, living in a one room flat and working in a hospital with autistic children....trying to be a writer.

I shot John, and John and Yoko, multiple times. For reaons unknown to me, but were flabbergasting, he seemed to take a liking to me. My relationship with him led me to Apple and the Beatles where I would go on to photograph all of "Let It Be," which produced the cover of the album and 160+ page book everywhere in the world but the U.S.A. I shot the Beatles last photo session in August of 1969. Many years later I would direct John and Yoko in a couple of small films to accompany the release of "Double Fantasy."

The collections to the right focus on the material I shot of John and Yoko independent of the work with the Beatles.
